Big Secret: Target's Holiday Candle Tin Deal!!!

I decided to make this its own post, since it is a lot of information. I will post the rest of the Target deals shortly. And don't get overwhelmed by the size of this post. This deal is very simple. Just read, and make a plan of action. =)

So, remember that awesome Glade candle tin deal a while back, where you could get tons of awesome candle tins for almost free?! According to fellow Hot Coupon Worlders, there is a killer deal on the new holiday scents! Couponing To Disney and Cha-Ching On A Shoestring have put together some awesome scenarios to make this deal a moneymaker!

Also, this deal is NOT advertised in the Target ads. It is an "in-store deal." It may or may not be marked. If you want to make sure the deal is going to work at your store, scan one of the candle tins at a price checker. It should say that you will receive a $5 giftcard.

Okay, so the Target deal is this: Get a $5 giftcard when you buy FIVE Holiday scented candle tins, glass holders, or refills at $2.50 each! The deal is valid from 10/18/09 to 12/26/09. It seems that most people are finding them on the endcaps of aisles, since it's a Holiday promotion.

Coupons available for this deal:
$1.50/1 coupon found inside the candle tins
$1.50/2 jar candles from 11-1-09 SS or 12-6-09 SS
Buy a holder, get a free refill from 11-1-09 SS
Buy a holder, get a free refill Blinkie coupon (found at various grocery stores - Publix, KMart, etc. )

Buy a holder, get a free refill
printable coupon (Limit 2 per computer)
***If you want the printable coupon, I would print them
now. When this deal surfaces on the internet, these coupons will be gone because of an overwhelming amount of prints!)

Best deal scenarios (pick the best fit for what coupons you have/can find):

#1:
Buy 5 tins.
Buy 5 refills.
Use 5 coupons found inside tins.
Use 5 blinkies and/or printables.
Pay $5 out of pocket, and receive a $10 giftcard!
***Moneymaker of $5!!!

#2:
Buy 3 tins.
Buy 2 refills.
Use 3 coupons found inside tins.
Use 2 blinkies and/or printables.
Pay $3 out of pocket, and receive a $5 giftcard!
***Moneymaker of $2!!! This will probably be the best deal for most, if you have trouble finding the blinkies and only have one computer to print 2 of the bogo free coupons.

#3:
Buy 5 tins.
Use 5 coupons found inside tins.
Pay $5 out of pocket, and receive a $5 giftcard!
***Free after giftcard!!! This is the best deal if you don't have the blinkie/printable coupon.

Now, a couple of hints:

*For every 5 products you buy, you should receive a separate $5 giftcard. So, for example: If you buy 15 products in one transaction, you should receive 3 giftcards. If you buy 10 products, you should receive 2 giftcards.

*You can roll any of these deals. You can not use the giftcards that you receive within the same transaction, but you can use it on the next transaction. So, you could roll the scenarios as many times as you like, and keep receiving giftcards to use on the next transaction. You'll only pay out of pocket the first transaction, and the rest will be free, and then at the end you'll walk out with your giftcards from the final transaction!

*This is awesome for the SC Johnson rebate!!! You get $5 back for every 3 SC Johnson products that you buy in one transaction. You can submit for the rebate up to 3 times per household, but you will need a separate receipt for every submission.

*You can also get a free mp3 Holiday music download for every Holiday glade product that you buy. Check it out here.

Many thanks to Couponing To Disney for all the information on this awesome deal!!!

The printable coupon says one per transaction. How do you use two in one transaction?

I was at the Target in Springfield, IL and this was not marked in the aisle nor did it come up on the scanner when I scanned it. Please make sure you check!

I saw this deal at the store before I saw it online. I have the printable coupons. The thing is none of the tins at my Target have the coupon. Even without it though it is still a good deal. The other deal I did at Target is Dove cream lotion. Buy 2 and get $5 GC. I have 2 Manufacturer coupon $1.50 off when you buy cream lotion and the lotion at Target has peelies, $1.00 off. So i bought 2lotion at $10, used 2 Manufacturer coupon, and 2 Target coupon...my final price out of pocket was $5 and I got $5 GC..not bad. Love the Dove lotion.

Where can I find the blinkie dispensers? In Target?

There was a sign at my Target when I went to do the deal about the gift card. I was hoping for the $1.50 coupons but the new (and much prettier) glass containers for the holidays have $2/2 coupon and not the $1.50 coupon. The other tins are not on sale for $2.50 at my Target.

To answer some of the questions...

The printable coupon says "one per purchase", which means you can use one coupon per item purchased. Therefore, you can use as many coupons as the amount of items you are buying. Make sense?

That limit on buying 5 of each, and not being able to use your giftcard on more candles is ridiculous, Thebortons!!! I can't believe he said that. Since when is a giftcard not valid for ANY purchase? Weird!

Target can really be picky on their coupon policy. This deal is perfectly 100% legal. If they give you coupon problems, they're just not coupon savvy. Sometimes it's truly "luck" as to whether or not you get a good cashier. Good luck on this deal!

Prices vary big time from store to store with Target. This deal is going through 12/26, so just keep checking back to see if maybe the deal hits your store. And like Amanda said, be sure to check with the price scanner before buying!

I've had problems with the tins not having coupons, too. Sometimes people take them out of all the tins - NOT COOL! If you're doing this deal, please only take the coupons out of the tins you are buying!!! Keep checking back on the tins. New ones will come in, hopefully with new coupons in them!

As far as the blinkie dispensers, I'm not positive where they are found. People have said in the hot coupon forum that they have fond them at various grocery stores. Check out that forum that I linked to! They might have an answer for you. =) I'm just going to use the printable one.

Good luck with this deal, everybody! Keep in mind, you have 2 months, so don't give frustrated if you can't make it work right now....maybe eventually!

When you use the coupons from the tins, do you take them out of the tins you're buying, or do you have to buy tins and use the coupons next time? Also, what tins do those coupons come in?
thanks :)

The coupons just come in those little Glade candle tins. It's just a little tin, and when you open it up, there's a little scented oil candle inside. They shouldn't be hard to find. It's the only "tin" Glade makes. Look for the Holiday scents. Those are the one the deal is on.

As far as when you can use the coupon. Here's what I think. USUALLY, the rule is that if a coupon is inside of a product, you have to buy the product first in order to have the coupon to use. (Obviously, since you can't open up a product in the store).

However, this coupon is so easy to access. You just take the top off and it's right there. Most people are treating them like peelies because of this, from what I can tell. A peelie is a coupon on the outside of a product that you peel off and use on the same product when you buy it. I was kind of skeptical of using the coupon on the same product at first. Then I started thinking about it, though. I know I would never buy a candle without opening up the tin top and smelling it to see if I like the scent. So, maybe the coupons are meant to be kind of like peelies, and you can use them on that same product? You have to use your own judgment, but it seems like across the board most people are using the coupon on that same product when they buy it.

I hope that helps! =)

I just did this deal today in Cary, NC.
5 TINS
5 REFILLS
-2 $2/2 In sunday's paper (I believe from 9/20)
-1.50 From previous purchase of the tin candle ( I don't believe the holiday scents had coupons in them...just the regular ones)
-5 Buy tin get refill free.

So I paid $7 out of pocket and got 2 $5 giftcards back!

That's awesome Tiffany! =) Did you get the BOGO's from the blinkies or the printable ones with multiple computers? I'm just wondering, b/c people keep asking what stores the blinkies are found at. Thanks!

I found the blinkies at K-Mart. I had heard you could find them there so I just stopped in and grabbed a few. I did the 10 items but they would only give me one $5 GC. But still, after the rebate I still come out $0.50 ahead.

The manager at the Target store was incorrect. I work there and I know. I've had managers ask ME how ad matches and stuff work because they know I was doing it before I got hired a month ago. I had one Guest Service team member tell me I couldn't use a coupon last month in a particular way and I knew very well I could. I let it go because I got to use it on another product but if I couldn't I would have thrown a fit.

I went to do this at the Kirkland and Redmond Target's in Washington state, the deal was going on at both, BUT someone had stolen all the coupons out of the tins. I only found one tin with a coupon in it, I hate when people steal, boo on them.
Also, the glass holders have a coupon inside as well but it isn't as good, $2.00 off of 2. Still can be a small money maker though.
Thanks for posting!

I found coupons in Real Simple for $1 off Glad air card product. It is a Target coupon. Does anyone know if this will work on these candles? If so you can stack with a manufacturer's coupon. Once you get the $5 gift card it could be an even better deal.

Hi AC,

I think it's gone now. I just checked. Either it re-set, since it's the beginning of the month. Or, it disappeared because so many people raced to print it.

Sorry. =(

Hope that helps...

I tried to do this deal at a Target I don't usually frequent. I guess I raised a red flag to the cashier when I tried to do 2 rounds in one transaction. She called a mgr over and they wouldn't take my coupons. I left with nothing. I called Target Customer Relations. They said, "At Target, we consider 'one per purchase' the same as 'one per transaction'" I was totally frustrated. I hope to find another store that will accomodate me during this promo, b/c it sure is a great one!

Kimberly, How frustrating! Target can really be hard to shop at sometimes. The problem is really their cash register software. It simply does not take coupons, for some reason. As soon as a coupon beeps, the cashier and/or manager thinks you're trying to do something illegal, when you're not!

One coupon per purchase ALWAYS means per item purchased. That's just coupon lingo! Sorry you had so much trouble. That's so awful!

I hope you find another Target to make this deal work! =)

The first time I did this deal, I didn't work it out right, so I got a total of 18 items, 9 candles, and 9 refills, but I should have bought 20 total...but all in all I have bought 58 items and made 13.00 without getting the SC rebate yet, I hope to do more through out the months ahead, everyone I know will be getting a candle!

::PHEW:: Okay, I just got back from Target, where I was able to do the deal!!! I purchased 5 holders and 5 refills. I gave the cashier the B1G1 coupons first, and he entered those in. Then when I gave him the $1.50/1 holder coupons, he said that he couldn't take them because he could only take one manufacturer's coupon per item. I calmly explained that the B1G1 coupons applied to the refills, and there shouldn't be any reason why I couldn't use the $1.50/1 coupons since they applied to the holders. He called his manager over, and I explained the same thing to her. She told me that Target's policy with B1G1 coupons is that they apply both to the item you're getting for free as well as to the item you're purchasing to get that item for free...which, in my humble opinion, makes zero sense. However, she told me she didn't want to be the "coupon police" and would allow me to use those coupons this one time. My cheeks were a little rosy when I left, but I ended up saving $31, spending only $4.91 (I also used a $1/Glade product Target coupon from Real Simple), and I got $10 in Target giftcards!!! I plan on doing the SC Johnson rebate 3 times over as well to make the most of this deal!!!

P.S. I got the B1G1 coupons from a blinkie machine in Kroger.

Kelly, Hahaha! I was laughing the whole time, especially the "rosy cheeks" part. That perfectly describes my couponing experience every time I go to Target.

They love making up ridiculous rules there. Bottom line, if you're saving a lot, they think you're doing something wrong. If the coupon beeps, they don't want to take it even if it's legit.

I always leave with rosy cheeks. I'm not a confident couponer! I get so embarrassed. hahaha.

Glad you got the deal, though! =] Thanks for sharing.

Isn't it crazy how Target has pretty clear coupon policies on their website (however, I do have to bring an email I got from Target explaining that I can use coupons with price on price matched items!)and then when there is something that a cashier or manager doesn't like, they just make up a policy right there...

I went to my Target on Saturday. It was pretty crazy because the Halloween. I gave the BOGO coupon first but even that, now I notice all the cashier will look through all coupons before they ran it. The BOGO one beep, the guy called his manager and put the manager told him to input the price. So I paid $5 for 5 tins and 5 refills plus 2 of $5 gift card. I used the $1.50 I've been collected from the past purchase.

I went there again today to do the same deal at the same Target. The BOGO ones beep and the cashier called manager. The manager said if it doesn't scan, they can't take it, regardless. Obviously, I think she just didn't know that they should had to input the price in for the discount. So I ended up paid $5 for 5 tins with $5 gift card but without the 5 refills.

I made another transaction which I planned to use the gift card from the previous transaction. Another cashier got frustrated because she can't scan the coupons I used coupons for buying the trial size items (Tide coupon). She didn't know how to adjust the price down. So I told her to take back those items. The whole deal was frustrated but I ended up paying 7 cents (with taxes). My total on the receipt was negative. So I just paid her and left the store pretty happy about paying only few cents :) FYI, this last purchase wasn't the glade deal.

Our Target is great... I bought 5 Tins and 5 Refills and the Cashier put in $3.99 in the Register for the Refills and they only scanned for $2.50, so he made me $$$$$....

This weeks Publix ad that is effective on 12/10 has the Glade 4oz candles 2/$4 so you should be able to get the price match so that means before you even use your coupon you are getting each candle .50 cents cheaper before you use your coupons.....
