*Birthday Fun*
After my horrible week, I must say my birthday turned out to be quite amazing.
First of all, I was greeted with many kind, encouraging, and uplifting birthday comments from my readers both on here and Facebook. Thank you so much!
I did have to work yesterday, but my boss let me work a short day...and have today off! Yippeee! My boss is so awesome!
When I got home yesterday, I took the night off from blogging, spent some much-needed time with family, and then my sweet husband took me to my favorite restaurant - Olive Garden! (I love their salad and breadsticks).
Side note: Do you ever get tired of servers who treat you differently the minute you order 2 waters? Ugh. She was so cheerful when she first came to the table, but when we ordered waters instead of a bottle of wine...that was the end of that! (And she really didn't like us when we split an entree!) She rushed our food out before we had barely taken a bite out of our salad. And we didn't get mints! Ha Ha. I just don't get it. I was a server at one time, and I never treated my customers differently based on what they ordered. It's just not right. Little do our servers know that even though we always get waters and split an entree, I will probably leave them a bigger tip than somebody who orders a $50 meal. I tip extremely high, because I remember what it was like to be a server. She was pretty rude, but I still left a high tip. =)
My husband and I then came home, watched my favorite movie (Pride and Prejudice), and played backgammon. My hubby gave me some great gifts - some earrings he made, a "learn how to play the violin" book to go with the violin he surprised me with at Christmas, a new wallet because mine is falling apart, and some other things!
I also got some really nice gifts from both sets of parents - goodies for the kitchen, knitting materials/supplies, homemade gifts (the best kind), and books!
Today is awesome for a couple of reasons:
I got to sleep in, take my time getting up, and blog throughout the day (rather than cramming it all in at night when I get home from work).
Our taxes are done! Yay! Tax season is always unbearable for us. My husband is self-employed, so needless to say taxes are not fun for us. We never get a refund -- we always pay. And seeing as we live paycheck to paycheck, we always have to save up the money over time to pay our taxes. Kyle is with the accountant right now going over everything, so that's just a huge burden off of our shoulders. *sigh of relief*
Today we get to go switch cell phone service! Yay! Goodbye Sprint...Hello Metro PCS! I'll be doing a blog post about this in the near future. But let's just say we will be saving a good chunk of money every month by doing this.
My husband is making me a surprise lunch today. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm excited! I'll have to tell you all about it later on. =)
My Aunt Iliana is coming in town tonight from Colorado (she's my age, weird, I know). I'm so excited! We're going to have a blast this weekend! That's her in the picture below! :)
So that's my birthday weekend fun. Just wanted to share. Thanks again for being the best readers ever, and happy birthday to many of you who told me your or your husband's birthday was this weekend as well!
What About You: Have any fun plans this weekend?

Sounds like you had a great birthday!! I know what you mean about the servers though. Colby and I are the same. We can't each eat a full portion of these GIGANTIC portions they give us so we usually split an entree and because we mainly drink water, many times when we go out we just need hydration, not a salty or sugary beverage that won't quench our thirst. So stupid. We always tip higher too.
WOW -sounds like you had a great birthday! i love all your gifts, how clever and thoughtful your husband is, and your family too :)
I understand about the self employed thing and taxes, Ugh- a headache everytime - Tho working for yourself is far better anyday!
Have a wonderful day off!
I am so glad you had a nice Birthday day!
Thanks for what do and share with the readers of this blog!
Sounds like a great birthday! You needed it :D
I see you got Julia Child's book, COOL!!! Did you like the movie? I wonder if you'll be able to make any of those meals on your budget?
I just sent my taxes off too and can totally understand the self-employed thing, yuck!
Thanks for catching us up on everything birthday and savings;)
I am glad you had a nice Birthday day!
I've been using Metro PCS for maybe 2 year now and LOVE IT! I pay $60/m for unlimited everything, even international calls. Some people told me their calls drop, but I went from Jax to Miami, talking most of the way (hey, its unlimited!)and never drop a call.
Happy (late) birthday! The Olive Garden is my favorite too! I love tiramisu (and I don't like coffee...yeah, I know)!!! My best friend lives in Italy and I'm always jealous that she gets to eat pasta and tiramisu and real pizza all the time!
Christina - I LOVED the movie! That's actually why I ended up asking for the cookbook. Most of the entrees have meat in them, but there are some great side dishes and desserts I can make. =) I'll have to let you know how it goes as far as taste, health, and budget!
Thanks to everyone else for the birthday wishes and sweet comments!
Oh and Silvina - we ended up not switching. LONG story to come soon...So bummed about it!!
Rose - Italian food has my heart...
Metro PCS is wonderful! We switched to it from TMobile. We've had no issues and we get more stuff than we had before for cheaper. Glad you had such a great b-day! :)
Happy Belated birthday! Thanks for writing a great blog! Loved all your gifts as well, how thoughtful! Regarding your server at Olive Garden...well, don't get me started! You and your hubby are way kinder on tips for mediocre or bad service than I am. I honestly feel that if a server's attitude changes from good to bad, or you are treated differently because you are not ordering as much or sharing, and the server gets a bit of an attitude, I just won't tip as well...period. That kind of experience, can ruin the night. Since I do not make much money, but like to treat myself to a nice meal once in a while, it's hard earned cash being spent...and if the service is not up to par, then the tip won't be, either. Like I said, you are much nicer than I would be :))). Anyway, I do love your blog and your entries, so thank you and happy weekend!
